Organiser and Sponsor

The Spark Challenge is organised and sponsored by Spark, owned and operated by Aadil Rifath, an individual based in Sri Lanka (“Spark,” “we,” or “us”). The 2026/27 challenge is hosted with the University of Moratuwa.

Eligibility

Anyone can download the Spark app and read the challenge’s public announcements and rules without an account. To sign up and take part in the 2026/27 challenge, every participant must:

  • be a student of the host university, the University of Moratuwa
  • be at least 18 years old
  • verify their student status with a university ID during sign-up in the app

Team leaders create their team during sign-up. Teams have three to five members. The Spark committee panel reviews and verifies every team entry, including each member’s university ID, before it is accepted.

Free Entry

Entry is free. No fee, payment, or purchase of any kind is needed to enter or to win.

How the Challenge Runs

  • team leaders create their team during sign-up in the Spark app
  • accepted teams take part in the challenge stages, supported by workshops, SDG sessions, and industry mentors
  • pitch rounds narrow the field from ten teams to five finalists

Judging

Teams are judged by external industry specialists, commercial experts, and investors. Their decisions are final.

Prizes

The judges select one winning team from the five finalists. A prize pool is split among the participating teams. The amount and split for each year’s challenge are announced by Spark through the Spark app and this website. Prizes are awarded in person at the end-of-programme celebration, expected in June 2027. No prize is paid, transferred, or otherwise handled in the Spark app.

Disqualification and Changes to These Rules

Spark may disqualify any team that breaks these rules or the Spark Terms and Conditions. Spark may change these rules, with notice to participating teams through the Spark app or this website.
